Welcome to Field Street Surgery.

Changes due to Covid-19

Masks are no longer mandatory but we would ask you to wear one if you are suffering from respiratory problems.

Due to the increase in Covid the clinical staff will continue to wear masks.

We are doing telephone triage appointments in the first instance. If there is a problem that needs a face to face appointment the GP will ask you to come in.

This also means there will be no face to face appointments available to be booked online.

The waiting room will still be set out for safe social distancing,  well ventilated with hand sanitiser for your safety.

The clinicians are wearing PPE for their protection and yours.

We ask you not to attend the surgery if you have any Covid-19 symptoms and to come at your appointment time so there are few patients in the waiting area.

We have a patient list of more than 2,500, covering Shepshed, Long Whatton, Thringstone, Charley Knoll, & Oaks in Charnwood.

We value core values. Our core values as a practice are to treat our patients with care, kindness and respect in a relaxed, friendly environment. Our aim is to deliver a high level of patient centred care.

Covid Vaccination Status – NHS App

From 17 May 2021, people in England who have had a full course of the COVID-19 vaccine will be able to demonstrate their COVID-19 vaccination status for international travel. A full course is currently two doses of any approved vaccine. People can prove their vaccination status:

• in the NHS App

• through (from 17 May 2021)

• by ringing 119 to get a letter

People are being asked not to contact their GP practice. Practices can encourage patients to download the NHS App or call 119, and signpost patients to more information.

We are working alongside Healthy.IO who are providing a Minuteful kidney urine test. The urine test is easy to do and the kit will be sent to your home. If you have diabetes or hypertension this will be part of your annual review.

This test looks at your urinary albumin to creatinine ratio (ACR). The ACR test checks your kidney function by looking for particles of protein in your urine called albumin. If there is albumin in your urine, this means you are at increased risk of kidney disease and heart disease. If this is picked up at an early stage, you can be put on medication that will reduce your risk of any complications.

Minuteful Kidney service for patients with diabetes (and/or other conditions)

The data is being processed for the purpose of delivery of a programme, sponsored by NHS Digital, to monitor urine for indications of chronic kidney disease (CKD) which is recommended to be undertaken annually for patients at risk of chronic kidney disease e.g., patients living with diabetes. The programme enables patients to test their kidney function from home. We will share your contact details with to enable them to contact you and send you a test kit.  This will help identify patients at risk of kidney disease and help us agree any early interventions that can be put in place for the benefit of your care. will only use your data for the purposes of delivering their service to you. If you do not wish to receive a home test kit from we will continue to manage your care within the Practice. are required to hold data we send them in line with retention periods outlined in the Records Management code of Practice for Health and Social Care. This is a national campaign to give people an idea of what staff in a doctors surgery face everyday.

It certainly isn't a new thing it has been happening for the 20+ years I have worked in the NHS however it is getting to be much more frequent.

We have a large number of understanding and kind patients at the surgery which we are grateful for.

Please remember we do our best to help in difficult times, please be kind to us.

Thank you

If you planning to travel you need to call in to the surgery for a travel form at least 6 weeks before you are due to go. The nurse will go through your form and let you know what vaccines are needed.

We are looking to increase the membership of our Patient Participation Group (PPG).

The PPG is made up of volunteers and our Practice Manager to help strengthen the relationship between the practice and you, our patients. Your PPG contributes ideas, feedback and suggestions to improve patient experience. We would stress it is not the role of the PPG to deal with complaints against staff as this is covered by the NHS complaints procedures.

Would you like to have a meaningful input into improving the services you receive at your surgery? By joining the PPG, you will have a direct voice to influence decisions made by the surgery about patient services. If you are interested in finding out more information or joining the PPG, please contact our reception staff.

The PPG is open to all patients of Field Street Surgery. The group meets bi- monthly, so if you are willing to join the PPG, you would be made very welcome.
